Sometimes, all we need is a little feedback to make positive changes within ourselves. Imagine if that feedback could come straight from your own heart. Well, now it can.
HeartMath is a science-based, evidence-based system of techniques and heart rate variability (HRV) technology for self-regulation that helps to build resilience and bring the mind, body and emotions into better alignment.
According to over 400-peer-reviewed journal articles, people who practice with HeartMath’s HRV biofeedback to generate a state of coherence report improved attention and mental clarity,
less pain, improved energy levels and better sleep. ( See videos below)
Coherence is a physiological state that is important for us to build resilience and maintain our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Coherence can be used to describe any system, including the human body, when there is orderly and harmonious connectedness between parts. Borrowing from physics, when we are in a coherent state, virtually no energy is wasted. This is because our systems are performing optimally and there is synchronization between the heart, lungs, nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system. (See videos below)
Our emotions affect our body more than our thoughts. We can generate a state of coherence by shifting to a positive emotional state. These include compassion, care, gratitude or appreciation. In contrast, we
can become incoherent when we experience negative attitudes or emotions, such as anger, fear
or anxiety.
For more than 30 years, HeartMath Institute has been researching the heart-brain connection and learning how the heart influences our perceptions, emotions, intuition and health. HeartMath helps you tap into the power and intelligence of your heart – your heart’s intuition – which awakens you to the best version of yourself.

The relationship between the heart and brain is like a complex dance that sets the tone for how we experience life. In this short video we share some of the fascinating scientific discoveries about their dynamic, as well as how learning to bring them into coherence with each other especially benefits our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

The Gene-ius Within: Unlocking the Beneficial Effects of Heart-Focused Intention on Gene Expression.
Research in the field of epigenetics suggests that our thoughts, emotions, and experiences can significantly impact the expression of our genes and ultimately, our health and well-being. This is an exciting area of research that offers new insights into the complex interplay between our energetic choices and physical health outplays. It is also revealing that cultivating positive emotions and practicing heart coherence may hold the key to opening up new potentials for self-empowered healing.
Studies conducted with over 11,500* people have shown improvements in mental & emotional well-being in just 6-9 weeks using HeartMath training and technology.
24% improvement in the ability to focus
30% improvement in sleep
38% improvement in calmness
46% drop in anxiety
48% drop in fatigue
56% drop in depression

HeartMath biofeedback training is endorsed and used by NASA, Kaiser Permanente®, Cedars-Sinai, Stanford School of Medicine, and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Other organizations have worked to bring heart coherence to the public attention through educational and information work. These include Dr. Mark Hyman’s recent Broken Brain 2 series, CBS, Wall Street Journal, Body & Soul, Roll Call, Reader’s Digest, CNN, Natural Health Magazine, ABC World News Tonight, Mashable, Today and Healing Quest
Dr. Candy Lewis Williams, ND. incorporates the HeartMath tools and techniques along with Emotional Freedom techniques in a trauma-sensitive manner to build her client’s resilience and capacity for emotional regulation following trauma. The Lotus Concept Wellness Programs and Coaching Programs include these evidenced-based tools.
Heart-Rate Variability is a powerful indicator of wellness and longevity. Using biofeedback to leverage the power of emotions and targeted breathing techniques can put you in control over your stress responses and can change health outcomes.
Using HeartMath Tools and Techniques can assist you in regulating or activating the parasympathetic portion of your Autonomic Nervous system allowing for:
The Autonomic Nervous System is independent of your regular nervous system. It has a nerve called the vagus nerve or the 10th cranial nerve. It runs from the brain to the intestine.
The opposite of the parasympathetic nervous system is the sympathetic nervous system. This is another part of the autonomic nervous system. It helps you enter fight-or-flight mode when needed.
The vagus nerve helps your body exit its fight-or-flight mode. You can remember what the parasympathetic nervous system helps you to do with little rhymes that describe its functions, like "feed and breed" and "rest and digest."
Learn ways to activate and navigate the vagal nerve. Take control over damaging responses to chronic stress. Practice makes room for permanent and meaningful changes.
